Message of Minister of Agriculture

Rooted in Québec tradition, farm fairs are opportunities to bring consumers and local producers and processors closer together. These popular events make it possible for citizens to discover the treasures their region holds and to become better acquainted with the world of food.

The 2018-2025 agri-food policy entitled Alimenter notre monde, unveiled last April 6, gives consumer needs pride of place when it comes to food supply. And farm fairs not only encourage buying locally, but also contribute to food education and to keeping the lines of communication open between consumers and producers. In so doing, exhibitors and visitors help promote and lend visibility to local products, and therefore play a part in developing a prosperous and sustainable agri-food sector that is firmly grounded and committed to improving the health of Quebecers.

The ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation acknowledges the contribution of agricultural exhibitions to promoting our agri-food industry and making it thrive. In every region, food producers and processors benefit from the growing interest in food from Québec and the popularity of agri-tourism, public markets and food tourism in order to strengthen ties with consumers. Everyone comes out a winner. Buying locally means job creation and regional prosperity.

I would like to congratulate the organizers of the Expo agricole de Lahcute and invite you to attend this great gathering in large numbers so that it tastes the success it so richly deserves.
